Colorado Adventure - May 2025

Started the day with a quick tour of Botanic Gardens. Nice display of local plants in the area. On the way back to Margie's house we decided to visit the more remote North Rim section of the Black Canyon. 

Headed to Black Canyon for day of hiking and sight seeing. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is named for the dark appearance of its canyon walls, which are often shrouded in shadow and appear black due to the steepness and narrowness of the canyon. On one of our hikes, the person in front of us warned us of a snake on the trail. Margie's reaction: Oh Boy! It turned out to be a non poisonous bull snake. This looks like a chipmunk but it's really a squirrel. His stripes don't go past its ears. Variety of flowers in the canyon. Lots of beautiful views Had a picnic lunch at the end of the East Portal Road. It was a six mile continuous down hill.  East Portal Road. Steepest road in Colorado at 16%. Met Margie at her house after her 10k run. My, how Lunyx has grown. She really likes her new home built by Margie. Travel to Black Canyon. Lunch at Otto's. Roast Beef, sweet potato fries and chicken for Margie. Cute dog in the driver's seat waiting for his burger. Traveling southwest from Denver, we had to go over several high passes that still had snow.

Finally made it to Colorado at 3am on Monday. What was supposed to be a short plane ride from Dickinson, ND to Denver turned into a 7 hour delay.  Waiting room at Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport.
